Josh Whitesell - Sneaky Keeper Potential?
The Arizona Diamondbacks have called up 1B Josh Whitesell from AAA. Thus far through 6 AB, Whitesell has 3 BB. Whitesell is 27, 6'1", 225 and is a solid hitting first baseman. In 2007 in AA, he batted .284, 21HR, 74RBI in 387AB with 87BB and an OBP of .425. In 2008 in AAA, he batted .328, 26HR, 110RBI in 475AB with 74BB and an OBP of .425. He's hit more HR every year in the minors since his first year in 2003, he's stayed healthy, and has showed he can get on base. He'll have to prove he can hit in the majors and at age 27, he's running out of time. This could be the lightning in a bottle you need to get ahead in your fantasy league. He'll likely take 2-3 weeks to feel the bumps and bruises but he could be a sweet player to grab and stash now who could be a solid second half player. Whitesell is the type of fantasy player who can come out of no where and be a keeper next season the way Ryan Ludwick did it last year. I'm not saying this guy will be a star and he can certainly crap out after a week or two, but this is the kind of player every year that makes fantasy baseball championships come true. A solid overall player who you can insert in your lineup that has a chance to provide a solid BA, HR, and RBI's. Take a chance and grab and stash Josh Whitesell.
