Another top prospect makes his MLB debut tonight and that's Pittsburgh Pirates' 3B Pedro Alvarez. Alvarez will bat 6th for the Pirates tonight but projects to be their future cleanup hitter. Alvarez potential is to be a real thumper. I am not sure if he will be a great average guy from what I've read but should decent (figure around .260) and be a 30HR & 100RBI man. At least that's what the Pirates are hoping for.
In February, Alvarez was Baseball America's #8 prospect overall. He's been in AAA all season and his current numbers are: 278 PA, 13HR, 53RBI, 42R, 1SB, .333 Avg, .419 OBP & has struck out 68 times.
Again, Alvarez can be a great helper to your fantasy team but as I stated in previous articles about top prospects coming up, your team should not be in make or break mode depending upon the initial success of the Stanton's, Posey's, Alvarez's or even the Strasburg's of the world. Having said that, if you can land Alvarez in your league without going bonkers.... go get him.
