I am going to make this a quick blog because those of you who have been reading my articles know I have written a lot about Mike Stanton & Stephen Strasburg since the winter time.
Washington Nationals' SP Stephen Strasburg went 94 pitches, gave up 2ER and collected an unbelievable 14 K's, including K's for the last 7 batters he faced in his major league debut Tuesday night!
Florida Marlins' OF Mike Stanton went 3 for 5 with two infield hits and 2 runs scored batting seventh in his debut.
Stanton has a huge power bat eventually will be a 4th place hitter. I think Florida will bat him lower in the order to ease the pressure but just a matter of time before he's their cleanup hitter. Scouts compare him to Dave Winfield, that's not bad for those of you old enough to remember big Dave as I am. Stanton played in 52 games in AA and had 21HR, 52RBI, 41R, 1SB, .311 Avg, .441 OBP, .726 SLG and also had 12 doubles and 2 triples.
Strasburg spent the first 2 months in the minors between AA & AAA. Strasburg in 11 starts had a 7-2 Record with a 1.30 ERA in 55 1/3 IP with 65K's. Strasburg had 0.80 Ratio, he walked just 13 batters and gave up just 31 hits in 55 1/3 IP. Everyone feels he will be one of the top starters in all of baseball over the next couple of years.
In terms of what to expect the rest of this year? Remember Strasburg is limited to 95 Innings the rest of the season that's it (15 starts). Also keep in mind these kids are kids. View those prospects through your free agency (or if you had them on your reserve lists) as great helpers to your team for the rest of 2010. If you get more than that that's fantastic just don't make the success of your team come down to Stanton & Strasburg. Remember Mickey Mantle and in recent years Roy Halladay had to be sent back down after early struggles their rookie year,
